The SMAC Initiative (THE SCHOOL AND THE MARKET CHILD)

A national education-based project is a coordinated effort across the country aimed at improving access to quality education for all children. It focuses on identifying the causes of educational gaps and implementing practical solutions to ensure more children are enrolled in school and actively learning.

Start date: September 7, 2026

End date: September 12, 2026

Aims:

There are several positive outcomes that the initiative hopes to achieve, such as:

  • Reduction in the number of children in the street
  • Reduced crime
  • Increased livelihood opportunities
  • Acquisition of quality education
  • Increase in the number of children finishing primary school
  • Increase in the number of pupils transiting to secondary school
  • Meet the SDG Goal 4.1 by 2030
  • If more free quality, equitable and accessible education opportunities are provided for a reasonable number of these out-of-school children, then the desired future of a well-structured and developed nation is bound to be realized.
Objectives:

  • Advocate with Government and other relevant agencies to provide adequate resources for special needs education;
  • Organize enlightenment workshops for market traders to understand the need for their wards, apprentices, and children to enroll in primary schools and to have basic education;
  • Discuss collaborative approaches on raising funds for school projects in the market area.
